iPhone support is here and so is version 0.9.10.7

We are thrilled to announce our latest release featuring support for the Apple iPhone.

To see this new functionality in action, point Safari on the iPhone to http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:41952/iphone. When using an EDGE connection use http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:41952/iphone/edge. In both cases xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the machine running TVersity.

You can now access your entire media collection in the home and on the go from your iPhone however in each of these cases a different IP address is needed and you may need to establish a port forwarding in order to access it on the go.

Please be advised that when video transcoding is needed, the iPhone cannot start playback until the entire conversion is completed, this is a restriction of the MP4/MOV/3GPP containers when streamed over HTTP (and since the iPhone does not support RTSP/RTP there is no way around it at the moment).

In addition to this we have many bug fixes in this and the previous release, including one security fix and hence we encourage all to upgrade.

Great app, however there may be a problem with the new beta update or with my system i guess.. all i did was update it and get it to refresh the 5 or so folders that i have shared out to my ps3. The Media Service now keeps crashing after a few seconds of the media refresh with the error log dump

szAppName : MediaServer.exe szAppVer : 0.0.0.0 szModName : sqlite3.dll
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 0001d11d

I will try and uninstall and reinstall from new and create all folder shares again.

Ok, reinstalled and added one directory at a time, and found out it happens only when i add one of my movie folders in it. They are mainly all AVI files with Divx encoding on them. A few of the files are Mp4, RM, RMVB and Bin/Cue files. Does TVersity save a log or something so you can find out what the file it is that is causing it to crash. rather then move out the files types one by one?? cheers, excellent app btw!

Yes, we do save a log. Please go to the announcement section of our forums for more information. We would very much appreciate getting your logs.

iPhone support is fantastic, and I quickly got audio and photo working, but video is giving me trouble. Even with small files (mp4), the iPhone simply says playback will begin one media conversion is complete, and it never seems to complete. No errors other other indications of problems. I can play the video on the host just fine.

That's not true, rtsp IS supported. Goto this page on your iphone: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/mwsf07

Click on 'Watch this keynote' and you will see that they keynote starts playing immediately, you don't have to wait untill it's all downloaded. It's streaming in RTSP right to the iPhone.

I think it's a matter of the right Javascript, interacting with the Quicktime player on the phone.

I'm looking for such a script btw, so if anyone has it, feel free to share...

Would it be too much to ask for .smi subtitle embedding on your next release? A lot of overseas users like myself would go crazy if you had .xmi embedding option in the transcoder. (No more need for divx players) Look forward to it. Thx.

I got the 0.9.10.7 and a PS3
You said for 9.10.5 that it "gives the user an option between MPEG1 and MPEG2"
How could I set MPEG2 instead of MPEG1? If I run an AVI file through TVersity, if I display the flux information it still display MPEG1... Any help to get MPEG2 will be very helpfull... I did not see any option to change this in your tool.
Regards

Just got a PS3 yesterday, and spent a while messing around with WMP11. After reading the forums, the consensus was to use TVersity. I have to agree, it's an amazing application, very easy to use and user friendly. Listening to music and watching DivX TV shows from my main PC is now a breeze. Superb!

re: iphonefan

A couple comments,

As far as I know the iphone does not support rtsp feeds, however the quicktime media server can be set to force rstp over http, which might be what is happening with that page, also rtsp can be wrapped in http.

I have not fully tested out the limitation of having to wait until a transcoded file fully downloads because Tversity is the only transcoding server I've found that works with the iphone, so it might only be a tversity limitation. I am trying to get nero 7 to work so I can stream live tv, but that one seems to be more difficult.

I'm having mixed results with upnp servers, tversity should work, twonkyvision works for sure. Streaming video is definitely possible on the phone. I have not found a limitation in filesize.

If anyone wants to talk further, most of my findings are non tversity related so its not fear to discuss them here, you can leave a comment on the iphonedev google group, username is shelly.

Hmm, video doesn't seem to work on the iPhone. It says the playback will begin but it never does, even for small files. No cpu is being used on my computer by TVersity either.

In any case, thank you very much for this most excellent application! You are an inspiration to programmers everywhere.

Ceriaz, It is rmvb. I kept seeing tversity stop the server over and over, and also noticed that from a certain point on my video directories would never share. Found cause to be 4 rmvb files I got stuck with, all rest in series were avi. God I must say that I've loved computers for 2 decades and HATED real entertainment for almost as long, although the fault here lies more with Tversity I would wager. Either way, love Tversity, hate Real, and thats real.

TVersity is the REAL DEAL!

Followed the iPhone directions and VOILA, the dang thing works first time. Gobsmacked!!!

For the past week I have been playing around w/ TVersity streaming to my PS3. Just shooked my head in disbelief when it worked. I've been d**king around with two other popular media centre software, struggling to get them to work (weeks go by with no payoff).

TVersity rocks, and that's no shill.

ps. Well done guys, I'm spreading the word around. BTW looking forward to some future Mac love on the software side.

iphonefan,

If you are using your iphone to watch that keynote presentation it's not done via rtsp. rtsp is (as far as i can see) not supported in mobile safari.

If you follow the links and the referencing movies you will eventually come a cross the file http://stream.qtv.apple.com/events/jan/j47d52oo/8848125_2_650_ref.movIf you check that file, at the bottom there is a reference to the file http://a1748.g.akamai.net/5/1748/46/4684523d/1a1a1a9b0a80e94ec1ef60d44a78d949b9258ab81b8af726930278e146b9e849b92995fa63d33baa187dac199003699bcbfb32/mw2007_iphone1000_100.m4v which is the acctual presentation, and that's the one you will see in your iphone.

And as you can see, the url scheme is not rtsp it's http.
