TVersity 1.0 RC1 is here

We are delighted to announce the general availability of the first release candidate of our 1.0 version. Please note that this is a release candidate and not a final release, meaning that we need your feedback in order to fix issues and turn this into a final release as fast as possible.
We will post full release notes shortly, in the meantime in case you missed it, this release is all about user interface and usability, but it also includes many bug fixes and other minor and major improvements to the transcoding engine, media library, auto discovery by devices, and much more.
In order to simplify some of the initial configuration needed to get TVersity up and running for the first time, we are including in this release a configuration wizard that can do most of these tasks for you. This includes firewall setup, service auto-start setup, Vista setup issues and more.
With regard to Windows Vista, we currently require UAC to be turned off or else TVersity will abort the installation. If you do decide to disable UAC or already have it disabled, the installation will work as usual. However on Vista only, the configuration wizard will recommend disabling the Windows SSDP Discovery service, you want to know why? It turns out that this service conflicts with TVersity and essentially hides TVersity form other devices on your network. In case you are curious it does not do it only to TVersity but rather our research suggests that any software stack that has its own SSDP implementation (as opposed to using the built in Windows stack) is affected by it. It did not happen on XP, but it does happen on Vista.
The codec pack has been updated as well, for best transcoding results it is recommended to install it. Our transcoding engine can now for the first time download FLV and MP4 videos, convert them and stream them to devices all at the same time. We have had this capability for a while with WMV streams but other formats needed to be pre-downloaded - not anymore!
We are also including in this release a web surfing toolbar from our partner Ask.com. It has always been our goal to introduce some web surfing tool that can help surfers uncover media URLs and share them with TVersity. We are taking the first step in this direction by forming this partnership with Ask. We are starting with their generic toolbar (made available in this release) and we are planning to continue in the future with a specialized TVersity toolbar that is integrated with Ask's video search results.
This release also features support for Blackberry devices (media streaming requires OS 4.3 or higher, downloading requires OS 4.2 or higher). Blackberry users with OS4.3 or higher can stream live Internet TV to their phone, watch YouTube videos and Podcasts, listen to radio stations and essentially enjoy anything that TVersity offers - access to one's home media library is of-course included.
As always we are looking forward to your feedback, please drop us a note and let us know what works and does not work for you, what you like and dislike and so on.
Most importantly we hope that this release empowers you to enjoy your personal media library and your favorite Internet media more than ever before and that you can now share it with more of your friends thanks to the simplified experience this new release offers.
Finally, in case you wonder, the picture attached to this post is a screenshot of our new website - to be release within a few days, so please stay tuned.

Detected by PS3 right away. Getting an error while trying to view and listen to movies/mp3. "The folder could not be accessed. This contect may have been deleted from the media server"
Thank-you...took me a bit as I'd never turned UAC off before, but it's up and running and connected to my PS3 within 30 mins. (For those of you worried about turning off UAC, you can turn it back on after the install). All seems to be working fine. One thing it would be nice to somehow convert what you had already built on the previous version. With the new install you have to build all your channels over again. Other than this thought, it's a great piece of software and I again thank-you developers. Great job !
thanks it's the best media server ever
I'll install it as soon as I get home! :-)
To answer a common question, after a new install we rebuild the whole library, and during that time you cannot access your media or to be more precise you are likely to get an error like the one Rich mentioned above. Just let it finish rebuilding the library and then the media library can be accessed with no issues.
Tremendous stuff, the FLV streaming is an incredible improvement for YouTube feeds on the XBox 360, this is such an impressive feature when showing off the media capabilities of my TVersity -> XBox 360 setup.
Out of curiosity, it's been mentioned several times that 1.0 was the milestone after which a Linux port would be available. Obviously until this goes final release, all concentration will be on that, but roughly how long after final release is confirmed would a Linux port be expected? At that moment, TVersity will become unquestionably the greatest media server software on the planet. Love what you're doing, please keep up the great work.
Having a problem installing the RC under Windows 2003 - always complains that tversity.exe is running, even when it is not!
I have just tried uninstalling the old version of TVersity and rebooting but it still complains that TVersity is already running and cannot stop it - any ideas what could be causing this?
When installing, I am getting error message saying "Tversity.exe is still running. Do you want to terminate?" If say yes it comes back saying "Can not terminate". I have already exit out from TVersity media server, infact I have rebooted. Any one has any clue ?
sorry, I have not noticed somebody else asked the same question
I pressed "No" if I wanted to terminate the process TVersity.exe, that worked for me...
(I first unistalled the old one and restarted...)
Thanks, selecting no allows the install to continue - installing at the moment...
I got a bug for you and yes it is a tversity bug audio is out of sync with the video in all transcoded on the fly videos and i tested the complete transcoded video on my comp. and it plays fine so its def. a problem with tversity streaming to my ps3.
Impressive work. I have used the 0.9 version for some time and installing the 1.0 RC1 was just next->next->next... voila!
Older version typically used up 20+ memory, but the new release takes up double. At one point, it used up 81 mb of memory for some reason. Also noticed a bug when sorting music on an Xbox 360... when clicking on the artist, it didn't take me to the albums of the selected artist for some reason. Issues aside, it looks great aesthetically.
After reviewing the server messages, I am coming up with...
"Started streaming "Cddhd-iam_ae_x264_bluray" to "Sony PS3"
"Error - Could not start decoding using direct show, aborting..."
"Error - Could not start transcoding for file://f:/stuff/movies/cddhd-iam_ae_x264_bluray.mkv"
Any suggestions?
system specs...
3.6ghz quad core, 8gb ddr2, vista x64
This is to Rich who posted the error msg. I'm not sure I'm right, but it sounds like the source you're trying to stream can't be recognized by FFDshow. Not sure, but did you uninstall FFDshow and reinstall again ? May help, or may just be telling you that it doesn't support the media you're streaming.
Detected my Dlink DSM-520 right away! I still have to restart the sevrice because the mediaserver.exe starts before my wireless connection is made ;(
All in all I love the product! The guide is a great addition. Can you still add ctreaming media from viewmytv?
Details of my home system:

Sony Vaio VGN-CR420E/R laptop (Vista home premium)

When refreshing the library, Mediaserver.exe crashes: unknown software exception (0xc0000094) at adress 0x67401bac.
Working FANTASTICALLY well with my PS3. I only just found TVersity thru google on the weekend and installed the last version straight away. I love the new GUI, so a HUGE thanks to the TVersity crew...Nice Work. seems a bit slower streaming video (eg. You Tube) though. I'm wondering if I should have installed the Tvsersity codec pack? I have the K-Lite codec pack and hoped that'd be ok? Any thoughts? Also, I can't get the ps3 to display my and friends photos thru flickr...only shows the thumbnail and then PS3 reads..."Image can not be displayed"...I did use user nsid . Perhaps it's a setting in flickr?
Install went OK (AMD based XP machine). Had tversity.exe still running error. TVersity recognized by a Denon 3808CI and a PS3. I have a modest CD library of about 700 CDs, ripped to flac with MediaMonkey. Some tracks have artwork also tagged by Media Monkey. Version .9 crashed when it encountered some embedded artwork during a rebuild or refresh "MediaServer has encountered an error"; this happens on about 5 of the first 50 albums in my library. The problematic track can be found using Debug and logging but is very tedious. I was hoping it would be fixed in v1.0 but it looks like it happens on exactly the same files.
Where do I download it??
So this release includes crapware? (The Ask toolbar, not sure if it's classified as spyware or not). Is it optional?
Alright, looks like it is optional, good.
But why do you require UAC to be disabled? I'm running the installer with administrator privileges, what's wrong with that? Is there any way to disable that check? What errors happen if UAC is on?
Installed it nice and easy. Not added Tvserity's codecs.
All films, audio work just as well.
But where is the radio feeds gone?
It was great listening to music from all over the world.
Let TVersity do it think, go for a coffee. It will work ok, when you get back.
Once installed restart the pc.
To Yolee....Yes you can still add from viewmytv...I've done it and it works fine. And to Krack...I felt the same as you...the predefined Radio feeds were really nice, but looks like the developers didn't nclude them in this version (maybe a good note so that they will include them at a later date). Still, you can add you own Radio feeds and it does work.
.9.11.4 worked fine with Vista with SSDP on and UAC on - why the change???
Not working properly - 1.0 RC1 wants to download all my media files first, then play. It won't stream as earlier versions did. Actually, video file download begins, but they never play. Browser opens, then I get Quicktime big "Q" and that's it. Any thoughts on how to fix?
Installed and running in 5 mins. plays perfect on the PS3. Excellent stuff. Still have the problem that when I pause a streaming movie (any format)for longer than about a minute and then resume play, the show pauses on its own after a few seconds. a bit annoying but a quick hit on rewind and then "play" and you are off again. I have read on several forums that this is a known issue. Are there any plans to look into this? Keep up the good work.
I no longer have faith in TVersity after the addition of the ask toolbar.
Can the ask toolbar not be installed?
I don't want crap on my computer.

This is awesome guys. No bugs as yet. Runs like a dream on my Vista rig and my crappy dsm-320. No excessive RAM usage or errors or anything. It just WORKS. How bloody awesome is this software. Just gets better and better
Great new version! Thanks!
Thank you for a greate program.
My question... I thought that I would be able to listen to mod music (tracker musik) with this version.
Was that addition not added or do I have to do something special to make it work?
I get an error saying that that the map may have been deleted. but it has not been deleted and everything else works. so I guess it can´t decode it in this version ether :(
still it is nice with a new layout.
(too bad the funktion I was looking most forward to was not in this version ether.)
Nice app! Works smooth under Vista for me after some problem solving. Had problems with playing anything on my ps3 except mpeg files, could browser my files and such, but when i wanted to play something else than mpeg i got network error or ndlna error. Well at the end i manage to find the source, it was my BitDefenders firewall setting "Stealth Mode" that was the couse, dot know why coz mpeg played nothing else did. Turned it off and it works. I guess a bug? Beside that, works very nice.
work great!!! I have problem with the subtitle xxxx.srt With the same movie, the subtitle work with the old version but not with the newest version. I may be wrong.
Library screen with separate sources and library is somewhat redundant and therefore initally confusing ... but for me, everything works on Xbox 360
including local videos, music, pictures; internet video and internet radio.
But you still don't prevent the PC from entering power-saver mode while Tversity is running. I use Caffe1ne to handle this but shouldn't have to.
Nice Job - almost!
You can disable UAC through the Local Security Policy under Administrative Tools as well. This doesn't even require a reboot.
Open up Local Security Policy. Go to Local Policies -> Security Options. Look for User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode. Change this to Disabled and it takes effect immediately.
If you have problems overwriting files on your existing install, just set your Tversity account (or whatever account you're installing with) to have full control over the Tversity folder and all subfolders. It should complete the install after that.
Installed successfully and running my PS3. A few things...Pausing is still an issue on the PS3 as mentioned on previous post...Media server has to be restarted every few minutes if the PS3 is idle...and it does not maintain capitalisation of folder names as it is done on the pc..seems to just capitalise the first character..other than that..looking good
Tversity installed great and it was working where others have failed. But today after I turned on my computer and then turned on the PS3, Tversity cannot connect to the network. the PS3 can not find any media servers. I have Vista, I disabled the UAC, I've allowed Tversity.exe and Mediaserver.exe access on the firewall and opened the ports on the firewall and on my router, WRT54G. Any ideas on how to fix this? Any other information needed? Thanks.
Im very disappointed the last version worked just fine, now i try and copy a file threw tversity onto my ps3 and it says 'file may have been deleted' WAW thanks tversity for making something that worked, into something crap
Im Very Mad old version worked fine now when i try and copy a movie to my ps3 its says 'file might have been deleted' WAW and im doing everything the exact same as i did befor
Tversity running on Win 2008 Enterprise Server - streaming to PS3 80GB over 54Mb wifi. seems to work - but when trying to play x264 content says Folder cannot be accessed. When Playing Divx files, if you pause for more than a minute, and resume play, gets error This content cannot be played (80028801).

Disabling UAC in order to install this program is not acceptable. Yes I know I can disable UAC, install TVersity and turn UAC back on again afterwards and be perfectly safe, but its the principal of making me do this that I object to.
UAC is there for a good reason and once you've figured out how to work with it (as opposed to "around it"), I'll be back. Until then, there are other media servers out there without this issue.
I hope i can get runescape gold in low price,
